Archived News Season 2005-2006

June 19th 2006 -- At 02hrs55min, our first daughter & Jarno's baby sister LINA was born in the UZ Gasthuisberg, Leuven. She's a nice & healthy little girl and we're very proud and happy to welcome her into our little family!

June 16th 2006 -- While we are awaiting the birth of our newest family member, we keep on planning for the next season. Besides our "active" participation in such races as the WSA EC event & a Distance race in Destne, we are also active in the organisation of the Pampa Sleddog Race. Here's a banner of this wonderful event!

February 20th 2006 -- Okay! We've finally updated our site and we proudly bring you a report of our results & pics during the last 4 races, that is: the Pampa Sleddog Race, the WSA "quali" race in Unterjoch, the 3-day event in St-Ulrich and of course the Sprint World Championship 2006 of the WSA in Frauenwald, Germany.

 The Belgian delegation at Frauenwald

At the WC, we finished 10th out of 17. A very competitive category indeed, and we're quite happy with the result. Arrow & Sky both showed off their power resulting from a good and thorough training programme, and reveiled their potential for future races. A nicer end result could have been possible, if not for the musher's physical condition ;) No blame for the dogs there. They performed superbly!

We had a nice delegation for Belgium, and both Joël (3th in the O class) and Denis (2nd in the "D2" class) brought home a medal!

For us the season's over, we'll start training with the cart now, integrating Spirit (1 yr old soon) in the team. We're already looking forward to next season, and you'll read about it here first of course! Thanks to everybody who supported us, and see you next year!

November 28th 2005 -- Mushing in Ottenburg! This week, we had about 15cm of snow at home, which, I can tell you, is very rare. So we took out an old sled, hooked up the dogs, and off we were! Ok, we didn't have a prepared trail, but the runners didn't touch the concrete, so we had a lot of fun ;) Moreover, in this soft snow, we gave our pup Spirit his "babtism", and he performed extremely well for a first time in harness!

November 12th 2005 -- The season has started, finally! We went to 2 races already. Temperatures are dropping, so we are catching up with our training program allright. In December (10-11th) we organise the Pampa Sleddog Race, which promises to be a very fascinating event, on what is most probably the nicest trail in Western Europe!

September 1st 2005 -- New Pics from the EC in Nauders are online, and read our season's review below or here!

The 2004-2005 season was our first real race experience. We were able to compete in the races we anticipated, and had the possibility to adequately train for it. Reaching our goal, participating in the WSA European Championship in Nauders, quite obviously was the highlight of our racing year.

 WSA European Championship Nauders
The season started with some "oldies-goldies" like Hofstade, E3-strand and Vilvoorde. These typical cartraces went quite smooth, allthough Arrow wasn't accustomed to a 3cycle yet, and Sky was barely 1 year old.

Our first "real" sledding adventure had to wait till January. While we hoped to train a week in Weng and participate in the Belgian Snow Championship there, we changed course along the road since snow conditions there were unsatisfactory. We headed to Urnerboden and were able to do our first miles in the snow!

The first and only race that could prepare us for the EC in Nauders, was the race in St-Ullrich, Austria. Our result there (3/7) gave us the courage to try the EC anyway, despite a huge lack in experience and snow training. St-Vith, which was cancelled but turned into a training weekend, maybe gave us the little extra push we needed.

Nauders was great as a first EC event, and while rumours are that the competition wasn't that hard in the D2 category (we finished 3 out of 5), we hereby challenge everyone to beat us at the 2006 WC in Frauenwald! :)

Which brings us to the next season. We will attend the "ususal" cart races during Fall, and we will try to go for some snow training by the end of December or beginning of January. We'd like to combine the St-Ullrich race with another one the week-end before and go for victory at the WSA World Championship. Somewhere around that moment, Sky should be in heat and that'll be an exiting moment as well, since we'll try to breed with her this winter. Check back with us real soon for race updates, calendar and ... pictures!!!
